How do you ship the boards?
Each board is wrapped in bubble wrap and sent via Fed Ex. Smaller boards that can fit into a Flat Rate box will be sent via USPS Priority Mail. All shipped boards are insured and can be tracked.
Why should I buy a board from you when I can go to the store and buy one that looks similar, for cheaper?
Most boards you see in the store are made in mass quantities. This typically means it is a cheaply made board. Each of our boards is individually crafted using quality wood and finishing products. Cheaper does not always mean better.
What is the difference between End grain and Side grain?
End Grain is made my putting together the end pieces of wood. End grain looks like a checkerboard. Side grain is parallel pieces of wood that have been put together and looks just like it as described: longer pieces of wood glued together.
Which grain is better?
End grain is what is preferred by many chefs. Because the end grain is absorbing the shock of the knife blade, it does not chip or crack. Fewer cracks and chips means lesser chance of bacteria growing in the board and better chance of your board lasting longer.
Why does End Grain cost more?
Simply put, it takes more time and materials to build.
What different types of wood do you offer?
We can pretty much build with any type of wood you are looking for, except for ebony. Ebony is illegal to purchase in the United States.
Does the cost of your boards ever change?
Yes. The cost of wood can change day by day. This means that a board that cost us a certain price to make one day can change the next. However, once a board has been built, the price of that board will not change.
Do you offer any warranties on your boards?
Yes, we do offer a limited warranty. If your board should dry out, warp or break, you can return your board to us. Most times we can fix the problem, or make you a new board. If your board cannot be fixed or remade, we will give you a refund. Please note, if you do not take proper care of your board, you will not be issued a refund or exchange. We will be able to tell if your board has not been properly taken care of.
I just received my board and it is slightly warped. Why is that?
When wood retains moisture, it will warp. Until wood has completely settled (meaning all the moisture is settled out of it), it will expand and contract. This is normal. Please allow 30 days after board is received for it to completely settle.
Can I put my board in the dishwasher?
NO. Doing so will cause your board to retain too much moisture, causing it to warp. Also, the amount of water from the dishwasher will take off your finish. This will result in your board drying out, which leads to cracking and breaking. Boards should be wiped down on all sides with a little bit of water and mild soap then dried immediately. Once board is completely dried, finish by wiping all sides of the board with Food safe Mineral Oil. Care sheets are included with your board.
